Finding Your "Main Squeeze" in Your Business
Finding Your "Main Squeeze" in Your Business
I love making fresh juices. Every sunday, I head to the grocery store with a clear intention. I load up on fruits and vegetables that give me the highest juice yield. Fruits like oranges, melons, and apples, lately since it's winter it's been pomegranate, yum. These are what I call my "main squeeze" the fruits that consistently deliver the most value and make the whole juicing process worthwhile.
As I was making my morning juice recently, it hit me: successful businesses operate on the same principle. Just as certain fruits give you the best juice yield, certain aspects of your business give you the highest return on your time, energy, and resources.
In my work as a mindset and business coach, I've noticed that many businesses struggle because they're trying to squeeze value from the wrong places. They're using precious energy on clients who aren't ideal, services that drain them, or activities that don't drive real growth.
Let's change that. Here's how to find your business's "main squeeze" and focus on what truly matters:
1. Identify Your High-Yield Clients
Just as I carefully select my ingredients for juicing, you need to be intentional about your client selection. Look at your current client list and ask yourself:
- Which clients energize you?
- Who respects your boundaries and values your time?
- Which ones really utilize your services and/or products?
- Who refers other clients to you?
- Which clients pay your premium rates without hesitation?
These are your "main squeeze" clients. They're the ones who make your work fulfilling and your business profitable. When you identify them, you can start focusing on attracting more clients just like them.
2. Analyze Your Service Menu
In juicing, I've learned that some combinations yield better results than others. The same goes for your service offerings. It's time to take a hard look at your service menu:
- Which services consistently bring in the most revenue?
- What work gives you the most satisfaction?
- Which offerings lead to long-term client relationships?
- What services naturally lead to upsells or referrals?
- Which packages drain your energy without proportionate returns?
Many business owners I coach discover that 80% of their profits come from just 20% of their services. That's your main squeeze right there. Consider streamlining your offerings to focus on these high-yield services.
3. Maximize Your Energy ROI
Here's something I've learned from juicing: using the right technique matters as much as choosing the right ingredients. In your business, this means being strategic about how you spend your energy.
Take a week to track where your time and energy go. You might discover that:
- Administrative tasks are eating into your prime client/production hours
- Free discovery calls aren't converting to paid clients
- Social media efforts aren't reaching your ideal audience
- Certain meeting times leave you drained instead of energized
Your energy is your most precious resource. Just as I wouldn't waste time trying to squeeze juice from dried-out fruits, you shouldn't waste energy on low-return activities.
4. Create Systems That Support Your Main Squeeze
Once you've identified your main squeeze clients and services, it's time to build systems that help you serve them better. This might include:
- A streamlined process for your clients
- Templates for your most effective service deliverables
- Automated follow-up systems for maintaining client relationships
- Clear boundaries that protect your energy and time
- Referral systems that attract more of your ideal clients
5. Trust the Process
Like anything practice, time and patience are essential for success, finding and focusing on your main squeeze is an evolving process. You might need to:
- Gradually transition away from clients who aren't the right fit
- Refine your service offerings based on client results
- Adjust your pricing to reflect the true value you provide
- Build confidence in saying "no" to opportunities that don't align
The Sweet Results
When you focus on your main squeeze in business, something remarkable happens. Just like a perfectly crafted juice gives you energy and clarity, a well-focused business energizes you and provides clear direction.
You'll find yourself:
- Working with clients who truly value you
- Offering services that showcase your best work
- Having more energy for innovation and growth
- Building a sustainable business that doesn't drain you
- Creating consistent, predictable results
Your Next Steps
This week, I challenge you to identify your main squeeze. Look at your client list, review your services and/or products, and honestly assess where you're spending your energy and focus. What's giving you the highest yield? What's just taking up space in your business?
Remember, just as bruised or dried fruits are not good in your juice, you don't have to accept every client or opportunity that comes your way. Be selective. Focus on what works. Maximize your yield.
Your business deserves to be as energizing and fulfilling as a fresh glass of juice. When you focus on your main squeeze, you'll find yourself with a business that not only sustains you but helps you thrive.
